Support

BikeShed is an independent app maintained by a solo developer. The best way to get help, report a bug, or request a feature is email:

[email protected]

We read every message and aim to reply within a few days.

Before you write

To help us sort things out quickly, please include:

  • Your BikeShed version (Settings → scroll to the bottom) and iOS version.
  • Your device (e.g. iPhone 16 Pro).
  • What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
  • If it’s about a specific ride or bike, roughly when it occurred so we can picture the flow.

We never ask for your password, payment details, or the contents of your bike data — and we can’t see any of it (see Privacy).

Common questions

How does syncing work? Do I need an account?

There are no accounts and no sign-in. Your data lives on your device and mirrors to your own private iCloud so it syncs across your Apple devices automatically. Just be signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account on each device.

My data isn’t syncing between devices

  • Confirm each device is signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account.
  • Make sure iCloud Drive is on (Settings → [your name] → iCloud).
  • Sync happens in the background and can take a little while, especially right after installing on a new device or after a large import — give it a few minutes on Wi‑Fi.
  • If iCloud is unavailable, the app keeps working locally and syncs later.

My photos didn’t sync to my other device

That’s expected. Photos you attach to a bike or component stay on the device that added them — they’re stored in the app’s private on-device storage and are not synced through iCloud. Everything else (bikes, components, service, rides) does sync.

Connecting Ride with GPS

Open the Activity tab → connect Ride with GPS and sign in. Imported trips land in Needs Review, where you assign each one to a bike to turn it into a logged ride. You can disconnect anytime, which removes the stored connection.

Connecting Apple Health

In the Activity tab, connect Apple Health and grant access to your cycling workouts. Access is read‑only — BikeShed never writes to Health. New workouts are picked up when you open or foreground the app, or via Sync Now. You can revoke access anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BikeShed.

A ride shows up twice

If you connect both Ride with GPS and Apple Health, the same physical ride can arrive from both sources. BikeShed matches them by start time and merges them into a single ride, so confirming one confirms both. If you still see a genuine duplicate, email us the ride’s date and time and we’ll help.

A ride imported on the wrong bike

Open the ride and reassign it to the correct bike. In Needs Review you can assign (and bulk‑confirm) imported rides before they’re logged.

I paid for Premium but don’t see it / I got a new phone

In Settings, use Restore Purchases. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so a subscription or the lifetime unlock carries across your devices. If it still doesn’t restore, email us the Apple Account region and the approximate purchase date.

How do I back up, move, or delete my data?

  • Export: Settings → Export Data writes a JSON file you can save anywhere via the share sheet.
  • Import: Settings → Import Data restores from that file.
  • Delete everything: Settings → Data → Delete All Data permanently erases every bike, component, service record, and ride. This cannot be undone.
  • Privacy Policy — in short, your data stays on your device and your own private iCloud. No accounts, no analytics, no ads.
  • Terms of Use
